Afiba, a 23-year-old, is married to an abusive husband. He does not show interest in the progress of this young lady. Afiba is a brilliant girl who is in the university. 

Her dream is to be an accountant. She is doing everything possible to convince her husband she is very good academically, even her colleagues call her ‘chief accountant’. 


She is in their room sitting at the edge of the bed, solving accounting questions with a lantern. The bedroom has clothing, cooking utensils as well essentials and non essentials conveniently packed in different places. 

When Afiba hears the door open, she quickly gathers her books and throws them under the bed. Odame (a 37 year old man) enters the room. Odame asks her why they are not having light and she replies they have been disconnected. Odame sat on an old couch. 

Afiba gets up and places a table in front of Odame. She quickly went to fetch water into a bowl and placed it on the table. 

Odame begins to wash his hands as she dishes a bowl with banku with soup. Afiba puts the food on the table and sits at the edge of the bed where she was studying. 

He dips his finger in the soup and stirs. He realized there are only two pieces of meat and questions her, why only two pieces of meat? Afiba replied, that's everything I used for the cooking. The money wasn't enough to get more. Odame continues to eat. After few minutes he took the bowl with water and wash his hand. 


As he wipes his hand with napkin he asked, you threw something under the bed when I entered. Pick it up and show it to me. She panics and starts to stummer Pa…pa…pardon? Odame is angry and shouted on top of his voice, you threw something under the bed when I entered, pick it up and show it to me. Afiba reached for the books and shows it to him. 

Odame saw an accounting book and a mathematics book and said you went to the class I told you not to step your foot there. Afiba knew he was going to beat her as usual so she start to beg him. 

Odame inpatient start slapping her, took his belt and gave her some lashes. 


Afiba in class the following day with her face swollen, weeps within. After the class the lecturer invited her to her office and asked what had happened to her. 

Afiba narrated the incident to the lecturer, who's husband happens to be a Police officer. The lecturer assures her she will take action. 


The following week, on Tuesday morning, Odame is preparing for work. Two police officers arrived at his house. After several interrogations, the police officers send him to their office. 

Some months later, Afiba graduates from the university with flying colors. Her dream to become an accountant has been achieved and now works with a mining company.
